Stop by Five Loaf House today through Saturday from 10 am - 7 pm and Monday 10 am - 2 pm. We are having a sale of items from Ten Thousand Villages, as well as fair trade coffee, chocolate, and baked goods. Proceeds benefit Five Loaf House and artisans around the world. For more information on Ten Thousand Villages, check out tenthousandvillages.com. Here's just a portion of what we have available:
The next big phase of our construction work is at hand! We'll be getting our first shipment of drywall sometime tomorrow (Wednesday, January 22nd), and we're planning on working every weekday until the drywall is done. We can use LOTS of volunteers, particularly those who have the strength and stamina to work with drywall. It's going to be exciting to see our rooms take shape!
Calling all volunteers! We just got the word that the work on the roof will begin tomorrow (Thursday, January 9th). We'll have professionals working on the roof itself, but we need lots of volunteers to serve as the ground crews. We can also use help providing lunches for our workers.
At the moment, we're scheduled to work on the roof tomorrow and Friday from 9 am to 2 pm, though the work may continue later depending on how things develop. Let us know if you can help in any way. Working on the roof will let us move into a new phase of work inside the building, so this is a big step forward! Today we had our scheduled inspection of the plumbing and electrical systems at Five Loaf House, and the work passed inspection! This opens us up to the next phase of work, which will begin with our next work day on January 4th. Thanks to all of you who have done such good work!
Please help spread the word that work is continuing at Five Loaf House every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. This Saturday, October 5th, we're hoping to do some work in the crawlspaces that will require young, strong backs! Sign up at Habitat's volunteer hub.
Great news! We picked up our building permit yesterday, so we're now able to move forward with a lot of work that we've been holding off on for several months. We haven't posted any announcements recently because we've been waiting on this permit, but now we should be able to give updates more regularly. Thank you for your prayers and your patience.
If you've been waiting to volunteer, now is the time to jump in. There is a lot of work to be done for all skill levels, and we want to have the building ready for the food pantry as soon as we can. Log in to Habitat's volunteer hub to sign up for Five Loaf House work days. We have now scheduled work days for Saturday, June 22nd and Saturday, June 29th. We'll be working from 9 am to 2 pm, and we're expecting to have lunch provided. If you're interested in helping, please sign up using Habitat's volunteer hub (requires registration). There are also volunteer forms available here on Habitat's website.
We're in the process of drawing up our plans for the first phase of building renovations. We'd rather take our time now to make sure we don't create problems for ourselves down the road, so be patient! We're hoping to have our first work days within the next month.
