The next big phase of our construction work is at hand! We'll be getting our first shipment of drywall sometime tomorrow (Wednesday, January 22nd), and we're planning on working every weekday until the drywall is done. We can use LOTS of volunteers, particularly those who have the strength and stamina to work with drywall. It's going to be exciting to see our rooms take shape!
Thanks to WNEP and Raegan Medgie for their great coverage of Five Loaf House last night! We didn't find out about this story airing until it was too late, but fortunately WBRE has the video available online. As always, we're grateful for their help in spreading the word about the work! Yesterday was a busy day for news coverage at Five Loaf House! Raegan Medgie stopped by yesterday to do a story on our work, so tune in to channel 16's news today to see the report.
Update: The news report will likely air on Thursday due to other breaking news today. We just had an interview with Nicole Walters from channel 13 on the latest work at Five Loaf House, so tune in to BRC 13 tonight at 5 and 6 to see their report.
Check out today's Pocono Record for a great article about Five Loaf House!
One small clarification: though the building is named "Five Loaf House," the food pantry will still be known as the "Top of the Mountain Ecumenical Council Food Pantry," since the food pantry will still be administrated by TOMEC. Calling all volunteers! We just got the word that the work on the roof will begin tomorrow (Thursday, January 9th). We'll have professionals working on the roof itself, but we need lots of volunteers to serve as the ground crews. We can also use help providing lunches for our workers.
At the moment, we're scheduled to work on the roof tomorrow and Friday from 9 am to 2 pm, though the work may continue later depending on how things develop. Let us know if you can help in any way. Working on the roof will let us move into a new phase of work inside the building, so this is a big step forward! Today we had our scheduled inspection of the plumbing and electrical systems at Five Loaf House, and the work passed inspection! This opens us up to the next phase of work, which will begin with our next work day on January 4th. Thanks to all of you who have done such good work!
Our renovations are ongoing, but we're making great progress! The end is in sight for our work with our electrical, plumbing, and heating systems, which will make working in Five Loaf House much more comfortable. It hopefully won't be long before we put out the call for help with serving in ground crews for the roof, and hanging drywall won't be long after that. Keep watching this space or our Facebook page for those announcements.
Please help spread the word that work is continuing at Five Loaf House every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. This Saturday, October 5th, we're hoping to do some work in the crawlspaces that will require young, strong backs! Sign up at Habitat's volunteer hub.
